From a long interview to a checkable passage

An illustrative audio and video review workflow that follows a topic from transcript search back to the original recording.

Illustrative workflow

This is a scenario for discussion, not a customer deployment or a measured outcome.

The task

A research team has recorded interviews and needs to locate a discussion about a particular decision. One team member remembers the topic but not the date, the file or the exact wording.

The task is to find a relevant passage and inspect enough of the original conversation to understand it. Identifying the speaker is a separate review question.

Prepare a permitted sample

The team chooses recordings it is authorized to process. It describes languages, recording conditions and any access limitations. A reviewer familiar with the subject identifies a few questions and known passages to use in the evaluation.

The sample should include ordinary difficulties, such as a pause, an interruption or a correction. These are part of the real workflow.

Search, then listen

A working transcript makes candidate passages discoverable. The reviewer uses a timestamp to reopen the source and listen around the selected passage. For video, the review also checks what is actually visible.

If a speaker label appears, it is treated as an anonymous grouping until a reviewer has a basis for assigning an identity. Nearby speech is not automatically attributed to the exact instant of a selected frame.

Record what was confirmed

The review note identifies the file and time range, summarizes what the source supports and retains any uncertainty. A correction to the transcript should be distinguishable from the original recording.

The team may decide the passage answers the question, supplies only partial support or needs to be compared with another record. Each is a legitimate evaluation result.

What the demonstration should prove

  • The candidate passage is relevant to the question.
  • The correct source recording opens.
  • Playback and its surrounding context can be reviewed.
  • Speaker and timing uncertainty are not hidden.
  • A second reviewer can return to the same evidence.

A successful evaluation makes the path repeatable. It does not turn every transcript into a verified account.
