This is a scenario for discussion, not a customer deployment or a measured outcome.
The everyday situation.
A curator is researching an object for an exhibition. Its catalog record is useful, but relevant photographs, correspondence and an oral-history recording are stored elsewhere. The question is not whether to replace the catalog; it is how to explore supporting material.
Start with the question.
What sources support the history of this object, person or place?
Who reviews: Curators, archivists and collection researchers.
Sample material: Catalog exports, correspondence, scans, photographs and oral histories.
A possible VAIMS-assisted workflow.
- Choose one object or a small related group, with permission to process the associated records and media.
- Search descriptions and transcripts, inspect candidate images and follow document references. Keep the institution’s catalog as its authoritative description system.
- Check names, dates and associations against original records. Visual resemblance alone does not prove maker, material, authenticity or ownership history.
- Record which sources support the exhibition text and which require more research. Review related copies before choosing an image for display.
What remains a human decision.
Collection specialists confirm identity, provenance, rights and context.
What would make the evaluation useful?
Time to useful sources, incorrect associations and the review needed before reuse. Compare the complete task with the existing approach, including verification and correction—not only the first search response. Include a question for which the sample has no answer.
Continue if the curator finds useful material and can explain its source. An attractive story with weak attribution is not a successful result.
Scope and availability.
This is an illustrative scenario, not a customer deployment or measured result. Functions and input limits are confirmed for the selected build. No special integration, industry certification or autonomous decision capability is implied.
Persistent Image Families and purpose-specific Best Copy recommendations are Pilot completion goals. Demonstrate only the portions accepted in the current build.
